Lars Backlund is the Secretary General of Broadcast Networks Europe (BNE).
BNE is based in Brussels and represents the commercial interests of Terrestrial Broadcast Network Operators serving 19 European countries with regard to policy developments and regulatory intervention by European Institutions, ITU and other organisations. Focus is to secure long-term availability of adequate spectrum for the terrestrial broadcast platforms and nurturing the long-term market opportunity for content distribution via the terrestrial broadcast networks.
Mr Backlund has a professional background in the satellite and remote sensing industry with the Swedish Space Corporation. He has also been a consultant to the World Bank on various communications system study missions. Mr Backlund has held several leading positions at Teracom AB (the Swedish operator of the TV and Radio terrestrial broadcast networks) including strategic planning, regulatory affairs and responsibilities for liaison with Swedish Government Departments and the Swedish National Regulatory Authorities.
Currently, Mr Backlund is a member of the 5G-MAG steering group. He holds a Master’s Degree in telecommunications and microwave engineering and also diplomas from executive programmes at the Swedish Institute of Management and from various courses at INSEAD.
