The upgraded OIV Fire Detect AI service with additional 32 surveillance cameras at eight locations in Istria, three in Ličko-senjska and five locations in Primorsko-goranska County was presented and put into operation today by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković.

What is OIV Fire Detect AI?

OIV Fire Detect AI represents an intelligent, advanced and integrated communication system for video surveillance of remote locations and early detection of open space fires in real time and is intended for all emergency services whose mission and goal is fire protection and rescue of people and property. Created in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB) from Split for Croatian Forests (Hrvatske šume), this system with 69 surveillance locations and 138 video cameras now covers more than half of the area of our counties where the largest number of fires occur.

Climate changes and long-lasting summer heat have moved the limits of increased risk of forest fires further north in comparison to those parts of Croatia where previously these risks were more pronounced. With the help of the sophisticated artificial intelligence system OIV Fire Detect AI and its upgrades and expansion, we are confident that the contribution to the reduction of burnt areas will be even greater than in the earlier years.
